Dec. 1, 2011 ? — a tiny church that is appalachian Kentucky is being called racist for moving a vote that banned interracial partners through the church.
The Gulnare Freewill Baptist Church voted 9 to 6 on Sunday to ban interracial partners from church solutions or functions, except for funerals.
Stella Harville, 24, and her fiance Ticha Chikuni, 28, will be the few that prompted the church’s actions. Harville is white and Chikuni is black colored. The few came across at Georgetown university in Kentucky where both visited college and so are planned to marry in 2012 july.
Harville is in graduate college in Indiana and Chikuni is working at Georgetown university, however when the couple visits Harville’s moms and dads in Pike County, Ky., they often visit church with her parents.
Harville’s moms and dads Cathy and Dean Harville have now been church users for decades. Cathy Harville has taught Sunday college in the church and Dean Harville had been a deacon here and it is presently the church’s assistant. They think about the church’s 42 congregants their loved ones.
But after a site in where Stella Harville and Chikuni participated by singing and playing the piano for a hymn, the family was shocked when then-pastor Melvin Thompson approached them after the service june. (mais…)
